What to take when traveling for a year?

Traveling for a year in various seasons, altitudes, countries. City and country. Mountains, beaches, jungle, desert. Plane, train, bus, car, ship. It's almost impossible to imagine! Fortunately the world has become very casual in its dress, even in cosmopolitan cities, so a few reliable basics will do. And they do sell clothes in South America.

One rolling carryon bag and one lightweight crossbody bag, plus a crossbody purse, a small fanny pack and a security pouch. One pair jeans, one pair multi-use black pants, one long black strappy rayon dress, one pair joggers, pj's, a few tees (including a nice red Petaluma teeshirt), a semi-dressy top, a cardigan, one pair linen pants, one linen tank, one light cotton shirt, swimsuit, pareo. Layers: denim shirt, fleece vest, fleece jacket, puffer vest, rain jacket shell. City hat and sun hat. A couple of scarves.

And yeah, shoes... foot care is important when one is shall we say no longer young. Can't just grab cheapo flip flops any more. So... one pair Dansko waterproof black suede short boots, one pair Dansko black suede sneakers, one pair white Adidas, Vionic sandals and Vionic sturdy flip flops.

Next fall it will be spring south of the equator, and it's always warm near the equator, so I can either jettison my winter wear if it's worn out or mail it home.

Maybe I will end up with one of the bowler hats the Bolivian women wear and a poncho. A new look!
